Hi There! I’m back from my little summer vacation hiatus! I had a wonderful vacation followed by getting the kids ready for back to school! I can’t believe it’s back to school time already, the summer flew by! I can feel the air starting to change which means fall is upon us! Today I have another living room refresh to share with you. When I met with my girlfriend to discuss updating her room she really wanted to do the room but wanted to stay on a budget and keep the paint and couches! So I worked around those to update the room and bring in some color and lighten it up a bit. The traditional cape house layout was designed to have this space be two separate rooms. With the current open concept craze, everyone wants these rooms to be one room. So, I really wanted make it flow better and change the layout a little bit to merge the two rooms together. Come see the before & after pictures….
TA-DA! I really wanted to make the computer space area to flow better with the room as a whole. Instead of having two chairs and the desk in the area, I rearranged the computer desk location and added some more furniture in. Shelving is a great way to add some height to a room along with bringing some decorative accents in. And where the computer table was before, I put a simple accent table and decor. That side of the room feels complete now.
For the main living room, I wanted to push the furniture together a bit more to create the TV area space. Before you’d walk between the middle of the couches when you came downstairs and now you walk behind the couch which seems to flow much better. The accent chair sits between the computer side and living room side which ties the room together. I did a printed rug filled with warm color tones on the living room side and a solid color rug on the computer side. Also, if you notice in the before pictures the fireplace was a brass color. I spray painted that area with black to remove that dated look and it cost $5 and makes for a huge difference.
Wouldn’t you like to curl up and read a book right here in this chair with coffee on the accent stool. I love these prints that I found at homegoods. She really wanted to be more on the warmer tone color scheme and these pull off the rug and bring those colors to the space.
Keeping with the original couches, I wanted to bring as much light into the space as I could given their dark color. I added some accent pillows to bring some extra color in as well.
I kept the shelves super simple and added a few accent pieces. (sorry for the AC unit, we couldn’t remove it)
I love the weathered taupe furniture we added to the space. Its brings some warmth to the space and allowed us to not fill the whole room with white furniture.
Adding an upholstered chair to your computer area will instantly upgrade your space. I’m not a huge fan of actual computer chairs in homes. They do have some great upholstered ones now, but sometimes an inexpensive accent chair will do just the trick.
I hope you guys enjoyed and found a little inspiration from this living room refresh!
