Good Morning! I feel it’s totally appropriate to be sharing this post on the official first day of Summer!! Today I’m sharing one of my favorite places, my outdoor space! This space brings me so much joy and I spend many days/nights out here. I really wish I had some before pictures of this space because it truly is such a big transformation from when we purchased it. Because my home is rather on the small side, I really wanted to create an outdoor living space that felt like an extension off my home. Another room in a sense that could be used in the warmer months almost as another living room. I envisioned comfortable couches, a little eating area and entertaining space. We are slowly getting there and couldn’t be happier with the space. I eventually would like to add onto the lower deck making it a bit bigger and we need to re-stain it the correct color, but for now it’s perfect! Come take a look..
I’ll start with an overview of the whole space and go into each section for you. The top deck was there when we purchased the house. The wood wasn’t in the best condition, but we didn’t want it to go to waste. We had our handy neighbor reclaim the wood and make us the outdoor bar you see up there. It’s a perfect place to eat dinner or sip a glass of wine up there. The bottom half is where we spend most of the time. Having these huge comfortable couches and chairs really makes it feel like another living room. I also have two large sets of bulb string lights above the whole space. Nighttime is my favorite time out here with the lights and fire.
The upper part of the space is my entertaining space. I really utilized this space to display drinks and serve food from up here. My buffet is my favorite piece of furniture because it holds so much for me. I love having a piece that I can store items for the grill, napkins, plates and extra glasses.
If you know me, you know there’s always a margarita ready to be poured. Having the essentials on hand at all times is a must for any unexpected, but welcomed guests!
I love having this large galvanized tub to hold beer. There’s even a bottle opener right on the front which makes it very convenient!
I love this little eating area. We aren’t huge on eating outside during the buggier months so this is the perfect size to have a quick bite or if we are having lots of guests over to sit and overlook the couch area below.
Onto the lower part of the space..
This space is my happy place. Having full size couches in this space allows me to have many guests and I even have extra chairs on hand should I need to add them in.
I love adding some color out here during the summer months. If you remember when I first showed you my outdoor space during my Fall Home Tour, that was much more fall color inspired. I have both on hand to switch out for the seasons.
My outdoor firepit is my favorite purchase to date. I’ve had this for years and I can vividly remember saving money aside to justify the price. While they have come down a lot price they are still a bit pricey. They are propane based and give you instant fire which I love. (Because I zero time to attempt to light an actual fire and getting the hubs to do it… well lets just say the kids could probably do it better.. shhh don’t tell him I said that) It also serves nicely as a table for drinks and light appetizers.
Adding flowers to your outdoor space really brightens and brings a little life to the space. If you’re not much of a gardener, buy the premade hanging plants. Just place them in your planter as is and cut the hanger top off. Instant plants! It’s totally what I did here this year because I’ve been so busy!

- Take care of your furniture. Outdoor furniture can be a big investment. Be sure to take the extra steps to make it last. I always cover my furniture when I’m not using it. Spend the little extra money to get some good outdoor covers and be sure cover them. It will protect from rain, pollen, leaves and more. During the winter months, I take all my cushion covers inside and cover the bases very well.
- Bring the indoors outside. It’s ok to bring elements from inside to your outdoor space. It creates the illusion that it’s another room, making it feel comfy and inviting. I’ll have blankets, lanterns and candles out here at any given time. Its’ just making sure you bring them back inside or store in a cabinet like mine to protect from rainy weather.
- Water your plants. If you are having plants outside, be sure to give them a little love and water them especially during the hot summer days.
- Prepare for guests. This is just something that I like to do because I love spontaneous entertaining nights. Before the summer months arrive, I’ll stock up on paper plates, condiments, plastic silverware, napkins, grill spray, bug spray, etc.. This way if you’re having company over, you only need to quickly pick up a few food items to grill, the rest you already have on hand. And always having a stocked fridge of beverages helps!
I hope you guys enjoyed and found some inspiration for your outdoor space! If I ever figure out my camera to shoot in the nighttime I’ll share some pictures! Comment below if you have any questions!
